CAMILA BARVO
‘La trenza como hilo’

2025

This piece serves as a personal reflection on the act of braiding. It explores an imagined space
where emotions tied to hair might be stored, what would such this place look like?
If a braid could trace a cartography of feelings, how would that map unfold?

Using the braid as both subject and medium, this piece renders a landscape where the emotional weight of hair is
embedded within fabric. As a fiber-based expression, the braid holds a unique duality, soft yet resilient, delicate yet strong.
Though it is formed through the intertwining of filaments, the very act of braiding creates a structure sturdy enough to be used as a
binding thread. This interplay of fragility and strength is at the core of the work. By allowing the braid to pierce through the fabric,
she emphasizes its power, transforming it from a passive element into an active force. By using wool used for dolls hair, the braid becomes
a thread to not only merely rest upon the surface but asserts its presence, embedding itself within the material.

Through this piece, she seeks to highlight the perception of a braid beyond a simple adornment into a holder of emotion and experience.
It is a visual and tactile reminder on how hair, so often overlooked in its everyday presence, can hold profound meaning, carrying within
it the intimate and the universal, the personal and the collective.
