‘Huellas del Tiempo’
‘Marks of Time’
This series handmade collages, or marbeled maps, explore the passage of time through textured compositions that ‘Marks of Time’
evoke pathways, cartographies, and layered memories.
Each piece shows a transition on surfaces marked by life’s touch—cracks, wrinkles, and marbled patterns reminiscent
of old fading walls, washed texture in vintage goods, and aged objects. Inspired by textures found in Cartagena’s
terracotta weathered walls, antiquities, barks of trees, and glimmers of gold, the collages transition between
color and form, portraying territories shaped by time.
Humans have mapped the external world in diverse ways, but how can the perception of time be mapped?
Or an internal feeling? a memory that changed through the years?
These cartographies register time’s movement and rhythm through texture.
How nature tends to mark and curve things organically.
These layers and rhythmic textures capture transformation, echoing the organic curves of nature, tangled hair,
or mountain ranges. These "maps" are not literal but emotional territories of identity and memory.
Drawing on the definition of maps as tools to represent space and process, the work reimagines mapping as a
means to explore internal landscapes. Through these abstract cartographies, the collection invites viewers to consider
how time leaves its mark, both on surfaces and within us.
